Metro Detroiters threw their gloom, open their wallets and travel again for the winter and spring break, travel agents and travel analysts say.
AAA Michigan reports that 31 travel agencies see traffic substantially higher in the last two months. Among them the winter and spring break travel bookings are students and families towards Florida, Mexico and the Caribbean.
Travel holidays and business among Americans overall had increased last year as the country climbs out of recession. International travel 3% through September 2011, the U.S. Department of Commerce reported. And the holidays have to go up 5% this year, according to the Travel-Ticker travel intentions Survey of 2,300 U.S. consumers. Product percent of respondents said they plan to take the same amount or more vacation travel this year compared to last.
